AI-powered tools force another tech enthusiast to enter the chat

AI is here, and it’s shaking up the design world. This collage I made is 90% Midjourney, which means I had more time to yell at my favorite team lose – yet again. AI tools are straight up revolutionizing the game for creators and designers. I mean, have you SEEN some of the wild and trippy stuff Midjourney can generate? It’s become an integral part of DEEPBLUE‘s design workflow, but hold up, before we all start worshipping our new AI overlords, let’s keep it real. As designers dive head-first into the world of AI-powered tools, we have to talk about what this means for the industry.

Are our jobs about to get terminated by some sentient Photoshop on steroids? Probably not, but hey, I’ve been wrong before! Just to list a few concerns:

  • Job displacement
  • Devaluation of design skills
  • Creative homogenization
  • IP and ethical concerns
  • Dependency

AI-Powered Tools like Midjourney are truly changing design

Design is often about emotional connection and understanding the nuances of human experiences. AI-generated designs may lack the empathy, cultural sensitivity, and personal touch that human designers bring to their work. This could result in designs that feel generic or disconnected from their intended audience and purpose. However, I believe AI has already become an indispensable tool in a designer’s toolkit, and while it might be able to generate some crazy cool graphics and layouts, it will always need a human to guide it and add that extra spark of creativity and emotional connection. Plus, let’s be real, AI is probably going to lead to some hilarious design fails along the way and I’m here for the memes.
